Kate’s not the only WINslet

Oscar winning Kate isn’t the only Winslet to be reaping in awards for her talent.

After scooping the best actress gong at this year’s Oscars, Kate revealed that mum Sally had triumphed in a different kind of contest – onion pickling.

Kate, 33, said: ‘My mum won a pickled onion competition in the local pub just before Christmas.’

The Great Retreat pub in Reading named Sally the winner over 19 other onion entries, branding Kate’s mum Queen of the Shallots.

The news comes after Kate swept the board at this year’s award ceremonies for her performance in The Reader, which earned her a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award too.

So it looks like there’s double the reason to celebrate in the Winslet household - must be something in their genes!
